Hi STKO team,
I am running the time history analysis of a building, Now I want to calculate the internal shear forces along the height of the building, then plot the distribution of shear force along the height of the building.
In my model, I used elastic concrete material and elastic beam elements for the building.
My idea is: Get the local Forces in the columns of each floor, then sum up the columns' shear force to get the shear force for each floor.
I'm using Python API to extract the local Force (V), but the script is very simple, in which the element names were input, and export the shear force for each element. it takes a lot of time to do for other floors
Can you suggest any solution to improve my idea?
Because it takes a lot of time to get local shear force in columns, then sum up all columns to get shear force for each floor, and other floors.....
Thank you for your support.

Re: How to get internal shear forces, and base shear force in building
Your idea is good one to calculate shear forces. Nonetheless, you can consider analyzing section forces in the global directions instead of local, as the definition of local forces depends on the orientation of local axes for each element. There will be chances to make errors in identifying the local axes of each element and sum the shear responses. Utilizing global forces would simplify this process. To explore this approach further, you may find PyMPC, accessible through the link below, to be a valuable resource for developing your idea. I can forward a Python script to you if we can develop a stable way of recording such responses. Thank you.

Hi,
Can you please help me to write the code to get base shear force for my case?
I attached the .mpco file in the attachment.
Thank you so much,
Buu
