Beam/ column connection to wall

Post by Zamiad » Thu May 15, 2025 5:52 pm

Hello,
I want to connect my beam/column to a masonry wall. Could you let me know how can I do that in stko?
Thanks,

You have to be more specific:
  • How did you model the beam? beam elements?
  • How did you model the wall? solid? shell?
  • How is realized the connection?

The beams and columns are modeled with beam coulm element in opensees, and the wall is modeled as a shell with asdshellq4... the connection is also is assumed to be perfect with no friction...

Beams and shells have the same number of DOFs.
Therefore, if your connection can transmit moment, you can simply merge beams and shells into a single geometry.
If instead you want a pinned connection, create an interaction between shells and beam using equal DOFs in translation and torsion only.
Otherwise you can still merge beams and shells, and release the local rotations of the beam using the HingedBeam element we explained in the webinars about lumped plasticity.
