Editing material properties in a section of the geometry

Hello!

I am new to STKO and am modeling a masonry structure. What would be the best way to add a new layer to the existing geometry to assign a different material property to it and conduct a modal analysis? What should be the minimum layer thickness to successfully mesh and run the analysis? Currently, I have tried modeling the region with the new material property as a new extrusion and merging with the original geometry, but I am having problems with the mesh (the software either crashes or completely removes that area of the model after meshing). Is there a better way to do this?

Also, I noticed in the model I'm working with that some of the points aren't exactly at 0, but rather at 1e-12. Would this have a big effect on the model/analysis?

Thank you!

Could you post an image of your model explaining your issue?
