A huge vertical acceleration

Post by [email protected] » Thu Nov 16, 2023 4:16 pm

Dear STKO team,

I followed the example of seismic analysis of a 2D soil column with WaveLet and dashpot. The soil material was linear elastic. When I used the “quadrilateral_elements.quad” everything went on right, the results are as following figures:

But when I change the element type to “up_elements.quadUP” there was a huge vertical acceleration:

I have tried many means but these large vertical acceleration still exists. Would anyone please give me some guide? Many thanks!

(notice that I need to used this quadUP element and apply the self weight using the “Optional parameters” of b2 so as to build the correct pore pressure. If I can run with PDMY02 material is better.)

Hi, this occurrence may be attributed to improper element properties of the quadUP, specifically pertaining to permeability parameters. I recommend a thorough review and verification of these parameters to ensure their accuracy.

Try this with the new absorbing boundary elements.
Note: here the time series for the base action should be exactly the velocity
