Local model of a Gerber joint
Local model of a Gerber joint
Good day all,
I have been having the following issue concerning the analysis of a Gerber joint, the model has been made by using solid element (geometry and the assigning the nd.materialTC3D), for concrete and solid element (assigning ElasticIsotropic material) for bearing and top plate. The bearing and the plate are linked to the concrete with Interaction - NodeToNode - (or General, mention this as well as it was also tested however with the same output). The plate has an imposed displacement (-z).
For the boundary conditions:
1. The Figure 1 depicts the restrains of the cut face which is defined as a bi-pendulum;
2. Bearing has a restrain in ux, uy, uz as it is shown in Figure 2.
The analysis options and output are shown in Figure 3 and 4.
The problem with the model is that there is MPCO file. This has nothing to do with the possible ‘path missing’ of the OpenSees executable because I have been able to run several examples.
Thanks in advance

Ciao bella!
Before the very first result can be plotted on an MPCO recorder, the model seems to have crashed. Send us your file and we can have a look.
Francesca.

Re: Local model of a Gerber joint
Hi Marialisa,
I had a quick look still haven't had the time to explore your model. But I saw that you have three separated geometries, are they all connected with the interactions you created? otherwise, you'll need to merge them or you'll have a singular model.
We'll have a closer look in the next days.

Re: Local model of a Gerber joint
Hi, I'm a beginner, sorry for every mistakes that I could have done. By the way in the model I have two geometries that represents the joint and I have used "union" to create a single solid, then I have the top plate and the bottom bearing and for these I used an interaction "node to node" in order to connect every parts to the solid joint, I haven't used the "merge" command. Today I try to modify the element properties for solid elements and I try to use bricksp but I have other problem for the incompatibility of the mesh. Waiting for your answer, thanks again.

Re: Local model of a Gerber joint
Dear Mari,
no problem if you are a begineer, do not worry, I believe Dr. Petracca answered your email too.
As I am sure he already explained, I am just going to add here some notes for the rest of the forum community.
The three solids you created and then jointed with interactions do no need to be separated elements interacting with each other in STKO. If you subdivide the geometry in the appropriate way to have a coherent mesh you do not need to create interactions but just merge the whole model in one.
Additionally, I suggest you to go through this thread, at the end there is a discussion on DamagaTC3D parameters which could be of use to you.
