How to model a self-centering material (Shape Memory Alloys)

Post by MOISES QA » Tue Apr 21, 2026 2:05 pm

Hello STKO Team,

I need assistance with a 3D model. I am currently studying self-centering materials (shape memory alloys) and would like to implement a diagonal brace acting as a fuse within a reinforced concrete frame.

At present, I am using a TwoNodeLink element. Could you please advise whether this is the appropriate element for modeling this type of material, or if I should use a different one?

it's fine but you have to assign a local axes to the interaction for the inclined local x direction.
otherwise, by default, the interaction use the global axes.

Otherwise you can use lines (no interactions) and truss elements. In that case the local axes will automatically allign with the geometry
