Re: How to consider the rotational mass in linear elastic static analysis?

You don't have to do it. The effect of rotation of translational masses should not be input as a rotational mass manually by the user. It is a natural effect of the rigid diaphragm constraint. At most what you can do, to mimic what the solver does, is to remove the translational masses from the slav...

Re: Modal Analysis + Mass Partiticipation Factors

Sir this code works fine for the masses that we assign to various nodes. But in case of Modal Participation factor, it is not considering the uniform mass distributed over the element Yes it is correct. Since this script is made completely in TCL, the only function that we have to obtain masses at ...

Re: ZeroLengthImpact3D Elements - wrong nodes

Great job, you spot a bug we had in STKO. It will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime here is the corrected python file. Unzip it and copy the zeroLengthImpact3D.py in your STKO installation folder: C:\Program Files\STKO\external_solvers\opensees\element_properties\zero_length_elements zer...

Re: issue with use of OpenSees(MP)

When using OpenSeesMP you MUST: Use MUMS as system Use Parallel RCM as numberer Use ParallelDisplacementControl instead of DisplacementControl (only if you want to do displacement-controlled analyses) partition your mesh run However, why are you using shells here? yours is a 2D problem, use plane st...

Re: error in compiling input file (mesh)

It says that you assigned the ShellMITC element property (4 nodes) to some edges (2 nodes). do this: - select all using the full geometry selection (not sub-selection) - drag the ShellMITC4 onto the graphic windows, if you keep the CTRL button hold, you will see that the command will be the Unassign...

Re: Using a Specific Mesh Geometry

The merge operation is very expensive and if you have many geometries it may crash. However, you have 2 options: Do the merge step by step, merging few hundreds of surfaces at a time. Finally you should be able to merge everything into a single geometry If your model is made of only surfaces, do not...

Re: Shear in a gauss plot

What you are doing is correct: use a section aggregator with a shear law (however its stiffness should be GA, not G!), and plot the output of section.force.Vy or Vz in the gauss plot or in the surface plot. We just realized that there could be a bug in the OpenSees code for the dispBeamCOlumn, in th...

Re: Difference between RigidLink Beam or Bar

Instead, if I want to model the concrete slab with a Shell element (ShellMIT4), it is better to use: 1) layerShell, in order to insert the reinforcement; 2) PlateFiber or 3) ElasticMembraneSection ?? ElasticMembraneSection: NO , it is elastic PlateFiber: NO , it is non-linear, but with only 1 mater...

Re: OpenSeesMP and Monitor Function

Oh ok... This is a very rare problem that happened to a just 2 other users. On some windows 10 PCs, when running OpenSeesMP (due to some admin restrictions) it does not read an environment variable that tells the Monitor that we can use Python inside STKO. So it tries to use the Python on your syste...
