Re: Damge TC3D Accuracy

This happens because the overall masonry (apparent) compressive failure is actually a tensile failure in the transversal direction and spalling of bricks at the sides.
Try reducing the tensile strength of bricks

Re: RE; Recording Fx due to displacement Ux

Why did you create several nodes overlapping?
When you attach them (slaves) to a master (on which you apply the imposed constraint) the reactions go on the slaves!
That's why you don't see the full reaction

Re: problem with the tutorial

You modified the material properties and made the fracture energies to small.
that's what the error is telling you

The layered shell is fine. Probably you are using the PlaneStressUserMaterial?

I don't have this problem with the model downloaded from the website. did you modify something? can you share your modified model?

Yes, or they should be linked with kinematic constraints

Re: Beam to Solid coupling hinge

You should also use a material for the 5th DOF of the zero-length. I understand you left it empty because you have a roller and thought it necessary to avoid moment transfer. But it is not like this in this case. The solid element already does not have rotational DOFs so it will never transfer momen...

Re: Appropriate penalty factor

Stiffer than the surrounding domain but not too stiff.
It really depends on the scenario
